Is Burning Legal?
Only campfires and recreational fires. Burning leaf piles, brush piles and non-woody rubbish is not considered recreational.
If you live or work anywhere in Tompkins County or a neighboring county, you can dispose of your yard and garden waste and pallets at our public drop off site on Agard Road in Trumansburg, NY. Cayuga Compost is a legally permitted yard and garden waste disposal site in the Finger Lakes region.
- No permit is required
- No bundling or tying requirements
- There is a 6' length limit
- No plastic, styrofoam, glass, metal, treated or painted lumber, tires or railroad ties
- Drop off hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- For cars, pickup trucks, vans or dump trucks, the "weight in pounds" fees are $40 per ton ($10 minimum)
